The first part of the valley plateau is level with the Rot from Gelrode, after which you leave this ugly duckling and dive right into a hollow road. The state of the road is deteriorating, but it is certainly not insurmountable.
The steeper part that flirts with the 10% is hidden behind a few bends, but you get through it quickly.
Afterwards, you ride parallel to the E314, and with the spur valsplat you gain a few "altimeters".

Although this slope will not win many prizes for its beauty, I do recommend it. Not only does it avoid a busy road (the Rot), but you can literally go either way after this climb: Hellegat towards Nieuwrode, Donkerstraat towards Gelrode, or straight on and off road towards Wijngaardberg. A nice connecting piece for indecisive cycling friends!

Nice little climb that I like to tackle every now and then when I'm in the area. It is a nice alternative for the rather boring Rot from Gelrode. In the winter it is best to avoid it because there is often soil and water on the road surface from agricultural vehicles and the road surface in the steeper part is not super but it is a narrow road where you never see cars.
The nice thing is that when you come to the t-junction you can choose to cycle right up the steep Hellegat and then take the nice winding road through the forest or right up the Donkerstraat which is also steep.
