I quite like it as a descent towards Valkenburg (although traffic is usually in the way), didn't care for it as a climb: a bit boring, mostly a (well-kept) strip of tarmac without much going on. The first half is still within the town and fairly urban, the second part coasts a few fields.
Fairly regular, it only sting some more (8/9％) for a relatively short bit, so it's all the more a drag.
Given the choice, I'll go through Sibbe if I want to climb out of Valkenburg in that direction
During a bike test ride from Shimano Experience Centre, started the ride with this climb. Unfortunately, it was in pouring rain. This is mainly descended to get to the Cauberg. It is a steady climb that you encounter more often in South Limburg

This climb is often descended, before turning left to climb the Cauberg. In itself, however, this is also a nice climb from the centre of Valkenburg. The climb is slightly longer than the Cauberg and therefore slightly less steep. Halfway up on the left is the tourist attraction the Steenkolenmijn.
Vaak wordt deze klim afgedaald, om daarna linksaf de Cauberg te beklimmen. Op zichzelf echter ook een leuke beklimming vanuit het centrum van Valkenburg. De beklimming is iets langer dan de Cauberg en daarmee iets minder steil. Halverwege links is de toeristische attractie de Steenkolenmijn gelegen.

Als je geen zin hebt in de Cauberg, kan je deze eens uittesten. Was wel op een zaterdagmiddag en was niet te doen van het volk. Stilstaan, auto's, "gewone" fietsers.. Misschien wel leuk om op een ander moment te doen, nu niet in ieder geval.

This is actually the descent taken to the foot of the Cauberg. Definitely fun to do once but I still prefer this one as a descent. The Sibbergrubbe is much more pleasant if you want an easy way out of the valley. This is mainly because of the traffic here. In terms of scenery, it is attractive in itself with the woods around and passage past the marl quarries.
Dit is eigenlijk de afdaling die naar de voet van de Cauberg wordt genomen. Zeker eens leuk om te doen maar ik verkies nog steeds deze als afdaling te gebruiken. De Sibbergrubbe is veel aangenamer als je een makkelijke manier wilt om het dal uit te raken. Dit is vooral vanwege het verkeer dat men hier heeft. Qua omgeving is het op zich wel aantrekkelijk met de bossen rondom en passage langs de mergelgroeves.

Klim vanaf splitsing met de Cauberg vanuit centrum Valkenburg richting rotonde bij Sibbe. De eerste kilometer gaat het flink maar wel met een nagenoeg gelijk stijgingspercentage omhoog. Vanaf het einde van de scheidingshekken tussen weg en voetpad vlakt de klim richting rotonde af.
Zeker in de zomermaanden is het op deze weg druk met stijgend en dalend verkeer waar je contstant moet blijven opletten. Daarnaast zijn er een aantal zebrapaden waar je voetgangers dan ook nog eens voor moet laten gaan.
Today and nice day of cycling from Sittard to Klimmen and then via Valkenburg to Maastricht. However, on my Gazelle city bike with 7 gears. So I am not a racing cyclist and have to admit that this is not really a suitable bike for this kind of trip.
But I found this work quite a nice climb on such a bike, especially because of the length and the busy road. On the way, I also had to cycle up other hills on sometimes unpaved roads.
Vandaag en lekker dagje wezen fietsen vanuit Sittard naar Klimmen en vervolgens via Valkenburg naar Maastricht. Echter op mijn Gazelle stadsfietsie met wel 7 versnellingen. Ik ben dus geen racefietser en moet toegeven dat dit niet echt een geschikte fiets is voor dit soort tochtjes.
Maar ik vond deze werk toch best wel een aardige klim op zo´n fiets. zeker ivm lengte en de drukte van de weg. Onderweg ook andere heuveltjes moeten op fietsen op soms ook onverharde wegen.
*Sigh*. 3 times I wanted to go up this climb, 3 times I had to stop because of too much traffic. Cars, walkers, cyclists, motorbikes, scooters make it very difficult to drive up at a good pace on a summer's day. Moreover, it is a road with many parking spaces, so you have to pay extra attention to traffic driving away. Regardless of the traffic, however, this is a fun climb to do. Not too high of an incline and once you get past the crowds, you end up in the beautiful, peaceful Limburg countryside. Nice to do at a quiet time, on busier days I would go for the Cauberg.
*Zucht*. 3 keer deze klim naar boven willen knallen, 3 keer moeten stoppen wegens te veel verkeer. Auto’s, wandelaars, wielrenners, motoren, scooters maken het op een zomerdag erg moeilijk om op een goed tempo naar boven te kunnen rijden. Bovendien is het een weg met veel parkeerplaatsen en moet je dus nog extra opletten op wegrijdend verkeer. Ongeacht het verkeer is dit wel een leuke klim om te doen. Niet al te hoge stijgingspercentages en eenmaal de drukte voorbij kom je in het prachtige, rustige Limburgse landschap terecht. Leuk om op een rustig tijdstip te doen, op drukkere dagen zou ik voor de Cauberg gaan.
The start of this climb looks a bit like the Cauberg with the pubs and restaurants along the route (it also starts at the same place). The first time there are still some houses etc. along the route but then you go into the green. The route has some curves so that is nice. Climb is a reasonable runner, once you get to the plateau it flattens out but the wind can also have an influence. Perfect tarmac, however, the road can sometimes be quite busy.
Het begin van deze klim heeft wel wat van de Cauberg met de kroegjes en restaurantjes langs de route (hij begint ook op dezelfde plek). De eerste tijd zijn er nog wat huizen e.d. langs de route maar daarna ga je het groen in. De route heeft wat bochten dus dat is wel lekker. Klim is een redelijke loper, zodra je het plateau op komt wordt het vlakker maar kan ook de wind invloed hebben. Perfect asfalt, wel kan de weg soms behoorlijk druk zijn.
An alternative for the Cauberg, if your legs are already completely acidified. The tarmac is fine, but this climb is very busy. Personally I prefer to descend it when I come from Bemelen/Sibbe.
Een alternatief voor de Cauberg, mochten je benen al helemaal verzuurd zijn. Het asfalt is prima, maar deze klim is wel erg druk. Persoonlijk daal ik hem liever af als ik vanuit Bemelen/Sibbe kom.
Personally, I don't like the Daalhemmerweg. The percentages are not that high, but because it is a long road without curves there seems to be no end to it. At the end you almost always get the wind in your face, so cycling out is not possible. The percentages are only about 1/2 percent but still you don't progress very fast because of the wind. That makes it frustrating.
Persoonlijk vind ik de Daalhemmerweg niet zo'n fijne klim. De percentages zijn niet zo groot, maar omdat het een lange weg is zonder bochten lijkt er geen eind aan te komen. Op het eind krijg je bijna altijd vol de wind in je gezicht, dus lekker uitfietsen zit er niet in. De percentages liggen dan maar rond de 1/2 procent maar alsnog kom je niet heel hard vooruit door de wind. Dat maakt het frustrerend.

Fine climb, without large percentages. You cycle right out of the tourist Valkenburg, into the peace and quiet of Limburg. At the top of the climb there is a nice lane. Good tarmac, what more could you want. I usually do this climb (or the Sibbergrubbe) instead of the Cauberg to avoid crowds and dangerous situations.
Fijne klim, zonder grote percentages. Je fietst zo de toeristenval Valkenburg uit, de rust van Limburg in. Aan de top van de klim een mooie laan. Goed asfalt, wat wil je nog meer. Deze klim (of de Sibbergrubbe) doe ik meestal in plaats van de Cauberg om drukte en gevaarlijke situaties te vermijden.
