A great unknown for the typical cycling recommendations. The start of the pass is less than an hour from Oviedo. It was a high finish in La Vuelta in 2023.

The first 4 km to the exit of Castañedo del Monte are very hard, with averages above 10 %. After the concrete ramp that leads out of the village, the slopes descend and a spectacular landscape opens up.

The last kilometre, after crossing the village of Linares, becomes harder again, although not as hard as the first kilometres. The end of the climb is well worth the effort, especially in good weather, with views that will have been worth the effort to reach the top of the pass.
