Nice steady climb. There is some traffic but most of the time they leave enough space. You can really fly up this climb as there aren't any suprise gradient. Once you find your pace you can ride to the end.
I rode this climb on a weekday and encountered little traffic. The climb is a nice gradual climb, so quite doable. What I did notice after passing the top of the climb is that the road then goes on sloping quite a bit, which means you have to pedal again several times until the hamlet of Hubermont. This makes the climb seem-and is-the secretly a lot longer! After the summit, the view all around is also beautiful, which is why I give it 4 stars.
Ik heb deze klim op een doordeweekse dag gereden en ben weinig verkeer tegengekomen. Omdat de LBL wielerklassieker deze Cote trotseert, geeft dat deze klim uiteraard wel extra aantrekkingskracht. De klim is een lekker geleidelijk lopende klim, dus goed te doen. Wat ik na het passeren van de top van de klim wel bemerkte is dat de weg vervolgens flink glooiend verder doorloopt waardoor je daarna nog een aantal keren weer aan het stoempen bent tot het gehucht Hubermont. Zo lijkt-en is?-de klim stiekem wel een stuk langer! Na de top is het uitzicht rondom ook prachtig, daarom geef ik deze ook 4 sterren.
Pretty busy road, runs nicely though and is pretty constant. Not too much straight ahead that's nice too. A nicer alternative is indeed the Côte de Hives, stunning views it has and a lot quieter.
Vrij drukke weg, loopt wel lekker en is vrij constant. Niet te veel rechtdoor dat is ook leuk. Een mooier alternatief is inderdaad de Côte de Hives, schitterend uitzicht heeft die en een stuk rustiger.
Departs from the center of La Roche, even climb on nice asphalt but busy road so this climb does not stand out compared to other good stuff in the area.
Vertrekt vanuit centrum La Roche, gelijkmatige klim op mooi asfalt maar drukbereden baan waardoor deze klim er niet bovenuit steekt tov ander lekkers in de omgeving.
My love and I climbed this colossus in the summer of 1975. It was scorching hot, we were running out of water, the three-speed bikes were heavily loaded. That day we cycled from La Roche to Bastogne. Halfway the road went down again and we had to go up again.
Mijn lief en ik beklommen deze kolos in de zomer van 1975. Het was snikheet, het water raakte op, de drieversnelingsfietsen zwaar bepakt. We fietsten die dag van La Roche naar Bastogne. Halverwege daalde de weg weer en moesten we weer omhoog.
A better alternative is the côte de Hives: has the same starting point (La Roche) and ending point (Ortho) but is much quieter and more beautiful.
Beter alternatief is de côte de Hives: heeft het zelfde startpunt ( La Roche ) en eindpunt ( Ortho ) maar is veel rustiger en mooier.
Personally I don't like that slope, because of the traffic and also the width of the road. The slope between La Roche and Hives, which runs parallel to the road, is narrower, longer, steeper ... and much less bothered by traffic.
Persoonlijk vind ik die helling onaangenaam, vanwege dat verkeer en ook de breedte van de weg. De helling tussen La Roche en Hives, die parallel loopt, is smaller, langer, steiler… en heeft veel minder last van het verkeer.
