Challenging climb but with a breathtaking view that repays all the effort, highly recommended!
Very nice very hard! I absolutely do not recommend doing the Mergugno , Pinci crown as I did. The climb immediately greets you with a mega-straight climb. Then it gives you a slight respite before the last part in the woods where hairpin bends near 9/10% alternate. Almost zero traffic, and it was Saturday. Suggestive view. I found a closed gate but it could have been the finish, where there is a panorama bench
Molto bella molto dura!
The climb starts in Porto Ronco (below Ronco sopra Ascona) and is not too difficult in the first part. Alternatively, you can climb from Ascona, via Monte Verità or Losone, via Arcegno. All alternatives lead to the flatter road (via Livurcio) overlooking the Lago Maggiore.
Then the "real" part begins, which, after the first hairpin bends between the houses, climbs quickly and the gradient hardly drops below 10 % any more. Traffic is practically absent.
One kilometre from the end there is a barrier, but with the bike you can continue, even if the road narrows and the condition of the asphalt becomes worse.
On the left there is a breathtaking view of the lake as far as Cannobio and beyond Luino.
Be careful while descending (remember the barrier...).
