I don't think this climb is called "Collado de la Espina", but in the Vuelta and in cycling this climb is actually called "Alto de los Machucos".

Great climb in Cantabria that you should definitely do if you are going to cycle in the area.
The climb is very irregular although the above schedule would say a steep constant climb but it's not because super steep parts are constantly encountered followed by less steep parts if you can call it 10% and more less steep. Fortunately, a few kms before the top you get a longer rest because the last few hundred meters or almost km are terrible. The road is very narrow and the only traffic is farmers or stray animals and they sometimes leave something behind on the road. The road surface seems to have been repaired a hundred times but is still quite passable. Along the way you drive almost constantly in an oasis of green. Watch out in the autumn for slippery spots caused by falling leaves. This climb is an absolute must in this region.
