Indeed a beautiful climb. Certainly also from the other side from Villalonga. If you are in the area then this is highly recommended.
Inderdaad een prachtige klim. Zeker ook vanaf de andere kant vanuit Villalonga. Ben je in de buurt dan is dit een echte aanrader.
The surroundings of the Sierra de la Safor are the most beautiful I have seen in the region. The ascent from Lorcha has actually good road surface, only almost at the top (on the plateau) there are a few stretches of road tens of metres long that are in less good condition (March 2022). On the way up, just before the steepest part, there is a viewpoint with a beautiful view of the valley of the Rio Serpis. On top of the summit is the Mirador de la Mar (a viewpoint of the beautiful surroundings). The road from the top towards Villalonga is quite different from the road from Lorcha: this side is much steeper than from Lorcha, and on steep sections the road surface is made of bumpy concrete. In the upper part, the asphalt road surface is in good condition, but later changes to rough asphalt (with sometimes bumpy concrete road surface again on steep sections). At a sand quarry (flat section), the road surface consists of gravel for about a hundred metres and then changes to rough asphalt again. In the descent to Villalonga you have to be careful, but stop a few times to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. On the side of Villalonga you cycle partly through a cirque, the Circo de la Safor.
De omgeving van de Sierra de la Safor is de mooiste omgeving die ik heb gezien in de regio. De beklimming vanuit Lorcha kent eigenlijk goed wegdek, alleen bijna boven (op het plateau) zijn er een paar stukken wegdek van tientallen meters lengte die in minder goede staat zijn (maart 2022).
De klim start met een serie van een vijftal haarspeldbochten die je mooi zicht op het plaatsje Lorcha geven. Onderweg in de klim, net vóór het steilste gedeelte, heb je een uitzichtpunt met een prachtig zicht op het dal van de Rio Serpis. Boven op de top ligt Mirador de la Mar (een uitzichtpunt op de prachtige omgeving). De weg vanaf de top richting Villalonga is qua wegdek een heel ander verhaal dan het wegdek vanuit Lorcha: deze kant is veel steiler dan vanuit Lorcha, en op steile stukken is het wegdek uitgevoerd in hobbelig beton. In het bovenste deel is het asfaltwegdek in prima toestand, maar gaat later over in ruw asfalt (met soms weer hobbelig betonwegdek op steile stukken). Ter hoogte van een zandgroeve (vlak gedeelte) bestaat het wegdek over een hondertal meters uit gravel om daarna weer over te gaan in ruw asfalt. In de afdaling naar Villalonga is het dus goed uitkijken, maar stop daarom enkele keren om te genieten van de prachtige omgeving. Je fietst aan de kant van Villalonga deels door een keteldal, de Circo de la Safor.
