You suffer in this climb. But its irregularities and proximity to forest / river makes it unique ! The poor road state makes it wilder, but the surface still completly OK for bike road. Very few cars.... read more

A climb that requires experience and training.
I suffered a lot on this climb and the descent of around 1.5 km does my legs and morale a world of good.
A very irregular climb, it always surprises, even when I did it the second time during the bridge of the climb. This climb is not to be taken lightly.
Nice descent on the Grenoble side, but the road on the Brédavière side is in very poor condition.
Climbed on 30/05/2025 and 1/06/2025

A narrow road, in very variable condition (holes, gravel), is already an adventure :)
The gradient is very irregular, with some very difficult sections, and others where you can take a rest.
The last few kilometres after the descent are the hardest, steep and steady.

This climb gave me a real Ardennes feeling. The road is nowhere really wide, almost no traffic or other cyclists and constantly sheltered by the forest around you. A big contrast with the wide Alpine cols in the area.

I like this side very much because you can go very quickly into the walls because afterwards there is plenty of room to rest, but the other side is still more interesting.

It's hard to do more different from the other side of the same pass. This one doesn't offer any remarkable viewpoint, we are from Brévardière in a very dense forest on a narrow road. Moreover, it is a particularly irregular climb with slopes that are sometimes harmless, sometimes very steep (notably this long kilometer section at 14-16% after Brévardière) and there is even a descent, which hurts the legs when it goes back up afterwards... All this makes it a dream climb for a pure climber who likes changes of pace. Another difference with the other side, particularly unfortunate : the road is often in bad shape. On the way up, it's fine, but on the way down, it's better to be careful.
