I climbed in the pouring rain, in almost Dantean conditions. Otherwise, in milder weather, I imagine they'd be gentle. More than the arrogant owner who took over the restaurant and kicked me off the terrace I was sheltering under. Cyclists, go back down and eat somewhere else. This charming gentleman doesn't like us.
As I mentioned above, there is a little restaurant at the summit. I was there again in 2022 and found that it had since changed hands. Unfortunately, the quality on the table had deteriorated.
As I wrote earlier : I don't like busy roads. That route Napoléon is the main road from Cannes to Digne-les-bains and is therefore very busy. But I didn't find it a disadvantage because it is wide enough and the road surface is perfect. That makes up for a lot. The climb is rather erratic , so maintaining a steady cadence is difficult. The view of Castellane becomes more beautiful per meter climbed with a sublime view of the 180 m high rock with the Notre Dame du Roc chapel. If you ever stay in Castellane or the surrounding area, the hike up here is a must. At the top is a small restaurant with a terrace. Pork cheeks is their specialty. 😋
Varkenswangetjes is hun specialiteit. 😋
Very pleasant climb: a few tough sections and some hairpins. It's a pity that the Route Napoleon is so busy with traffic. You can also climb the other side (from la Tuilière), some nice views there.
