If you're on holiday in L'Alpe d'Huez and you do this climb from the resort, it'll only be a formality despite the very difficult finish.
On the other hand, if you do the Col de Sarenne as a continuation of the ascent of L'Alpe D'Huez from Bourg D'Oisans, then it really gets serious, the section between 8 and 10％ is really hard because about 1km almost straight and midday in the middle of a drought.
But at the top you finally breathe in this magnificent nature before descending via Mizoën and Lac du Chambon on a small road that is very steep and not in good condition everywhere.

As mentioned before, this is a totally different extreme than the Alpe d'Huez, and therefore the perfect combination in one trip. Wonderfully quiet, beautiful views and a nice road. On the top is little, but a toilet (without water) and if you climb the rocks you have a nice viewpoint.

I was curious (read: slightly worried) about the descent to Mizoën / Lac du Chambon, but it was not too bad. But it is not a descent where you want to go down at full speed.

After the hustle and bustle of Alpe d'Huez (the day before the Tour stage of 14-7-22), this climb is the other extreme. What a peace and quiet! Sheep, mountain goats and beautiful views. A steep tail to the top.

Drove quite by accident. We drove through from Alpe d'Huez just our ride. The road beyond Alpe d'Huez was not always good to ride, say in bad condition. I've climbed sarene 3 times this year via alp huez. but climb via mizoen at the lake is very nice through rugged nature but bad road. the water gullies after the top towards alp huez are removed and the road is improved after the tour all in all a tough climb but definitely worth it.
