Spicy climb starting in the descent of the Col d'Ornon. The steep pentes fly around your ears and persist throughout the climb. Recuperating is hardly an option. On the way, you cycle mostly through a forest, so distractions are also minimal. It is toiling and raking to the top. Only in the finale are you rewarded with some views. Attention, the authentic col sign is located a little further down after a (steep) bit of descent.
Little traffic on this tough climb. Road surface is moderate and the gradients are not bad. You climb through a forest so not much view along the way, but once at the top you get the reward.
Particularly challenging pass especially after 60km of cycling. Steep slope 11 to 12% according to the signs, all the way, with no real place to recover.
You can see the south side of Taillefer down the hill, otherwise the route is quite hidden by vegetation. Few vehicles. There is a water point 100m before the Angelas church.
