Super nice climb, close to the coast. It is in a very nice "Alpes Nautique" area.

The Col de l'Ecre is an opportunity to climb a pass close to the coast with a difference in altitude of over a thousand metres. I climbed it from the Côte (Cagnes-sur-Mer) and, although the actual ascent only starts at the village of Pont-du-Loup (197 metres above sea level), you have to endure a steep climb before reaching this village.
Most of the ascent is through woodland, and after Pont-du-Loup there are magnificent gorges and attractions such as the Courmes waterfall and the Saut du Loup. Not too much traffic - and that's nice! - on this departmental road, even though I passed through at the height of the summer season (18 July).
Just over 6 kilometres from the summit, you come to the beautiful village of Gourdon, where a stop is very welcome. The last few kilometres are more rocky, with few shady spots.
The Col de l'Ecre is one of just a handful of passes in the Alpes Maritimes department (see photos).
