A tough climb that starts with percentages between 7 and 10%, once out of the centre of Ugine it gets a little less steep (5%-7%) and the traffic gets a little less busy. Until the intersection with Banges, then the traffic pretty much drops completely. (Not a single car passed by behind me during the whole climb). The stretch from Banges to Le Lierre does not get below 8% with regular stretches of 10 - 13%. After three quarters of the climb, the gradient becomes more runnable with 5 - 7 % which feels like relief. About 3 times I felt like I was at the top, but each time a higher stretch loomed behind the bend. It's a cloudy, dry day with temp around 20°C at the start of the climb. At the top what a chilly day with lots of wind. First I wanted to descend via the Mont Dessus side, but after some 350m this road discontinued due to huge amounts of gravel/stones and potholes on the road. This side is clearly not maintained/snow-free during winter. So then we took the back road as out. Once back at the crossroads of Banges we took the direction of Héry sur Ugine and then descended via the main road through the Gorges d'Arly to Ugine.
