The name of this pass made my ears water. So it was on my bucket list... The first few metres are a bit intimidating, but then it calms down very quickly. The road is clean. The views of the village and the fortress of Entrevaux are remarkable. The end of the climb is in a sparse forest.
No motorised vehicles. We climb both sides. Nothing exceptional, but a pleasant walk.

If you like climbing and are not afraid of a "devil's start" this one is not to be missed. I knew how long the climb was, but I had no idea about the gradients. But as I rode out of Entrevaux, I had to gulp at the sight of those first (hecto)metres. I was so startled that I was only just in time to downshift as low as possible. This was almost inhuman. That first kilometre was a horror and even though it was only a kilometre, it took a while before my heart rate was back in acceptable regions. But then it gets smoother, with alternating steeper and less steep hairpin bends. The views are absolutely stunning. On one side you have a constant view of the descent of the D610 against the rock faces on the other side of the valley. A descent (punchy and dangerous) where, just before, I came down with brakes clamped shut (and buttocks 🤦‍♂️). And, depending on where you are on the climb, a great view of the fortified (Vauban) fortress of Entrevaux, located 156m above the fortified town. And the higher you climb, the more beautiful the view.

The start from Entrevaux is "deadly". A little bit of climbing at easily 15% to burn your legs from the start! The rest is pretty good. The pass is fairly regular and the laces follow each other well, with the bonus of a breathtaking view of the sumptuous citadel of Entrevaux! The arrival at the top is very pleasant, in a quiet area with a small clearing bordered by a pine forest.
