This col or colette is an excellent climb on a hot day. The road offers plenty of shelter with trees. Along the way, you get a great view at the viewpoint. At the top is a restaurant where you can have something to eat or drink. I had a very quiet climb in the morning with only a few cars's. The road surface has just had new gravel, but not really disturbing.
Deze col of colletje is een prima klim op een warme dag. De weg biedt veel beschutting met bomen. Onderweg krijg je een prachtig uitzicht cadeau op het uitzichtpunt. Bovenop is een restaurant waar je iets kunt eten of drinken. Ik had in de ochtend een hele rustige klim met maar een paar auto's. Het wegdek is net voorzien van nieuw split, maar het niet echt storend.
The goal is to climb well. The frequentation is hikers so during the week there is nobody. The view is of the Auberge du Catray and a few laces, but I wouldn't make it an asset, but it's a fairly long, regular pass that will give your legs a good workout and with a bit of fractio will give you a real ride. Then after this prefatigue we arrive at the big dovecote in a few minutes. I'm sure you'll be able to get to know it better and it's a great place to visit. I'm sure you'll be able to make it to the top of the hill in the next few days.
Le but monte bien. La frequentation ce sont.des randonneurs donc en semaine il y a personne. Le vue il.y a l auberge du catray et quelques lacets mais j en.ferais pas un atout mais c est un col assez long regulier qui dessinera bien vos jambes et avec unnpeu de fractio vou donnera une vraie caisse. Ensuite apres cette.prefatigue on arrive au grand colombier en qq minutes. Venez m y rejoindre je croise peu de cyclo il merite d etre plus connu. En parler m a donne envie d aller le faire demain cuvery Grd.C. richemond 😍
Good climb, the first part with the hairpin bends is a bit of work, the rest is very doable. Nice view especially if you look back (just stop here) overlooking Bellegarde. The road is sometimes a bit 'busy' for French mountain roads then eh.
Prima klimmetje, het eerste stuk met de haardspeldbochten is even werken, de rest is erg goed te doen. Mooi uitzicht vooral als je achterom kijkt (wel even stoppen hè) met uitzicht over Bellegarde. De weg is soms wat 'druk' voor Franse bergweggetjes dan hè.
Objectively you are right. The first half is steeper but if the second half is less steep, the rough tarmac makes the last few miles seem long with a pleasant forest road in the summer. The last half of the ride is a little less scenic. The whole pass makes it a good bump far from being the easiest in the area and the panorama at the exit of the wood, at the Catray inn takes your breath away and deserves to be stopped for your photo album or to eat as the last 3 kms are easy. If you leave Bellegarde from the town centre I am surprised that the pass is not longer and with a D+ approaching 1000m. A bump that has nothing to envy to some alpine passes for its length and D+. The regularity allows to make intensities. This pass is the entrance to the Bugey pleateau and therefore the beginning of the exit, the other side is a false flat, at the top you can ride downhill for a few kms while recovering and you are already at the foot of the mythical Grand Colombier! An unavoidable pass that makes you walk if done regularly.
Objectivement vous avez raison. la 1er moitié est plus pentue mais si la 2nde l est moins le goudron râpeux posé fait que les derniers kms semblent longs avec une route en foret agreable l ete d ailleurs. On regrettera sur cette derniere moitié d avoir moins de points de vue durant. L ensemble du col en fait une bonne bosse loin d etre la plus simple du coin et le panorama a la sortie du bois, a l auberge du Catray vous coupe le souffle qu il vous reste et merite de s y arreter pr votre album photo ou manger comme les 3 derniers kms sont faciles. Si on part de Bellegarde depuis le centre ville je suis etonné que le col ne soit pas plus long et avec un D+ approchant les 1000m. Une bosse qui n a rien a envier a quelques cols "alpins" pour sa longueur son D+. La regularité permet de faire des intensités. Col porte d entrée du pleateau du Bugey et donc de debut se sortie, l aitre versant est un faux plat, au sommet on laisse rouler en descente quelques kms tout en recuperant et on est deja au pied du mythique grand colombier! Un col incontournable qui te fait marcher si fait regulierement.
