Yes, it's a steep climb.
It's rather salty! In fact, you have to start your celebrations lower down than Les Vénières. The start would be at the junction of the D710 and the D911.
And then? And then you grit your teeth and tell yourself that tomorrow's ascent of Bay will be even harder...

Eh bien oui, ça grimpe fort.
C’est même plutôt salé ! Il faut d’ailleurs commencer les réjouissances plus bas que Les Vénières. Le départ serait plutôt à l’intersection entre la D710 et la D911.
Et puis ? Et puis, on serre les dents et on se dit que demain, l’ascension de Bay, sera plus dure encore…
Vous appréciez les efforts intenses et courts ? Le col du Buy vous attend…

I was warned in advance, but then I'm like, "Whatever, we'll see, it can't be that bad, I've already been through something, etc..... ". But I still have nightmares about this. 😅 This is a canker.... a beast..... a leg-breaker..... a killer.... the "Angliru" of the Alpes de haute Provence.🥵 You won't retain a shred of pleasure from this. Never did I ride slower uphill than on this climb, it just took me 37'54" to the top. These are one of those climbs where you think: "Good for once but never again". But if you are in the area and you want a solid climb, this is "the place to be".
Ik was op voorhand verwittigd, maar dan heb ik zoiets van : " Zal wel, we zien wel, zo erg kan het toch niet zijn, ik heb toch al wat meegemaakt enz..... ". Maar hier heb ik nog nachtmerries van. 😅 Dit is een kanjer.... een beest..... een potenbreker..... een killer.... de "Angliru" van de Alpes de haute Provence.🥵 Hier hou je geen greintje plezier aan over. Nooit reed ik trager bergop dan op deze klim, Ik deed er zo maar even 37'54" over tot op de top. Dit zijn zo van die beklimmingen waarvan je denkt :"Goed voor een keer maar dan ook nooit meer". Maar als je in de buurt bent en je wil een stevige klim dan is dit " the place to be".
I do it every year... and every year it's the same mess. What a wall! Incredibly difficult. The reward of the view at the top seems meagre compared to the suffering endured during the climb!
Definitely the most difficult pass around.
It remains a great challenge and I hope one day to be able to climb it"serenely".
Je le fais tous les ans... et tous les ans c'est la même galère. Quel mur ! Incroyable de difficulté. La récompense de la vue au sommet paraît bien maigre comparée à la souffrance endurée pendant la montée !
Une des deux montées les plus difficiles du coin avec celle vers Bay.
Si vous le prenez dans le sens de la descente, ayez de bons freins !
Ca reste un très beau défi et j'espère un jour arriver à le monter "sereinement".
NB : col très mal exposé en hiver et souvent gelé. Aussi est-il souvent fermé à cette période-là.
