A fairly easy climb, but one to be avoided on very hot days. I recommend doing it in the morning as there's nowhere to protect yourself from the sun. Don't start out too hard because the higher you go, the steeper the gradient, and you need to keep your pedal power up for the last 5 kilometres of the climb. The climb from Entraigues is well worth it for the pleasant (but dangerous) descent to Bourg-d'Oisans.... read more

The climb from Entraigues is well worth it for the pleasant (but dangerous) descent to Bourg-d'Oisans.

On a 40 degree day, the exposed south facing climb feels way harder than it should. The valley and scenery are stunning and the early k's a pleasure, but it's got a real kick to it. What was just a linking climb turned out to be one of the hardest of our week in the Alps. Don't under estimate if the sun is out, there is nowhere to hide!!!!

Good cafe at the top though.....and lovely descent back to Bourg really rewards

Nice climb. Fairly wide road, but traffic wasn't too bad. Not a steep climb. You can keep a reasonable pace. Maybe therefore a little boring compared to the beautiful hairpin climbs in the area.

Aardige klim.

Climbed from this side because I came from the Col de la Morte. Compared to the other climbs in the region that I have had, this one was very boring. But I guess the fact that I was suffering from the previous two climbs also played a part. The road surface was fine and it was not very busy. The descent towards Bourg d'Oisans was beautiful.

Not too difficult climb, especially the first 10km are (firmly) false flat. The road is often fairly straight here, so it is not really exciting.

First climb in the Alps, nice to get into because starts very quiet and gets steeper towards the end, but never really steep. Wonderfully quiet and the tarmac is fine.
