This climb wasn't too bad for me. I am quite heavy (85kg+) and here I was able to climb quite smoothly compared to the cols outside category. Mind you, the steepest part of the climb is at the end so share well here and don't waste all your strength in the beginning, still have some left for the last km's.
Deze klim viel me heel goed mee. Ik ben vrij zwaar (85kg+) en hier kon ik vrij vlot klimmen vergeleken met de cols buiten categorie. Let wel, het steilste van de klim zit hem op het einde dus deel hier goed in en verspeel niet al je kracht in het begin, hou nog over voor de laatste km's.
A pleasant climb, which began when the pass was closed to vehicles, but traffic reopened before reaching the summit and it's quite busy (at least in July). The view is beautiful during the ascent and the descent down the other side to the Payolle lake is a real pleasure, with perfect tarmac in the middle of a pine forest. Definitely worth the diversions!
Une montée sympa, débutée alors que le col était fermé aux véhicules, cependant la circulation a rouvert avant d’atteindre le sommet et c’est assez passant (en tout cas en Juillet). la vue est belle pendant l’ascension et la descente par l’autre versant qui permet de retrouver le lac de Payolle est un vrai plaisir avec un asphalte parfait au milieu d’une forêt de pins. Ça vaut définitivement le détour !

An absolute classic that - on a nice day - has breathtaking views higher up, looking down. On the other hand, it's also spectacular if the bottom (half) is covered in - especially white - clouds and you get a look on that higher up. If you have the time for the alternative via Aspin-Aure, you should do that too. A bit harder and the tarmac is not too good after the village, but well worth the effort.
An absolute classic. From the start of the climb, you have beautiful views of the surrounding area. It can get horribly hot on this climb though and there is pretty little shelter. From about 5 km before the summit, you can already see that summit and then it takes a long time before you finally get there. This climb is not to be missed.
Een absolute klassieker. Vanaf het begin van de klim heb je mooie uitzichten op de omgeving. Het kan wel gruwelijk heet worden op deze klim en er is vrij weinig beschutting. Vanaf ongeveer 5 km voor de top zie je die top al liggen en dan duurt het nog heel lang voor je er eindelijk bent. Deze klim mag je niet missen.
It's best to use the first few kilometres to get into it, but don't go full speed here. The running lanes invite you to bring out the heavy gears, but if you blow yourself up here, you'll get devastated after about 6 kilometres... I think the breaking point is between kilometres 7.5 and 9.5, where the percentages continuously flirt with the 10％. If you have dosed well then you will get through this unscathed. Otherwise, it becomes raking to the top.
Towards the end it fortunately levels off a bit, but in the last few hectometres a bouncer of no less than 13％ awaits!
Very fine climb!
De eerste kilometers gebruik je best om er goed in te komen, trek hier zeker niet volle bak door. De lopende stroken nodigen uit om de zware versnellingen boven te halen, maar als je je hier opblaast dan krijg je het na een kilometer of 6 verduiveld zwaar... Het breekpunt ligt volgens mij tussen kilometer 7.5 en 9.5, waar de percentages continu flirten met de 10％. Als je goed hebt gedoseerd dan kom je hier ongeschonden door. In het andere geval wordt het harken tot de top.
Naar het einde toe vlakt het gelukkig wat af, maar in de laatste hectometers wacht er nog een uitsmijter van maar liefst 13％!

I'm 15 years old and this is the first pass I've climbed. I recommend approaching the climb with humility, even if you want to put on a big gear in the first few kilometres. The rest of the climb is not easy, with spikes at 12%. The last 3 kilometres are the hardest psychologically because you can see the summit from far away. The descent is totally safe. Magnificent scenery'I was also able to better understand the suffering of the Tour de France riders when 3 weeks after me they climbed this pass (except that they went on to the Tourmalet and Hautacam).
J'ai 15 ans et ce col est le premier quj'escalade . Je recommande d'aborder l'ascension avec humilité même si on a envi de mettre un gros braquet dans les premiers kilometres . La suite n'est pas facile avec des piques à 12 pour cent . Les 3 derniers kilometres sont les plus durs psychologiquement car on voit le sommet de très loint. La descente est quand à elle totalement sécurisé. Magnifique paysage j'ai pu egalemant mieux comprendre les souffrances des coureus du Tour de France quand 3 semaine apres moi ils ont escaladé ce col (sauf que eux embrayait avec le tourmalet et Hautacam

Prachtige klim, eerste stuk loopt vlot maar de laatste 6km zijn niet te onderschatten. Maar gedurende de volledige klim, één woord: genieten!
Climb made on July 20, 2022 to see the Tour de France pass by at la Hourquette d'Ancizan. The atmosphere was great, the spectators encouraging the amateurs in this mythical climb of the tour. Fog at the top deprived us of the view over the valley. The excellent condition of the road is a great help for climbing. I will come back on a day with better weather to fully appreciate this pass and this effort in the calm of the mountains.
Montée faite le 20 juillet 2022 pour aller voir passer le Tour de France à la Hourquette d'Ancizan. L'ambiance était formidable, les spectateurs encourageant les amateurs dans cette montée mythique du tour. Du brouillard au sommet nous a privé de la vue sur la vallée. L'excellent état de la route est une aide appréciable pour grimper. je reviendrai un jour de meilleure météo pour apprécier pleinement ce col et cet effort dans le calme des montagnes.
Climbed in the early morning (little traffic). Quiet start with some hairpins between the trees then change to route through sloping meadow hills at 7％ average with nice views on the valley of departure Arreau. Bike information signs are at your disposal every kilometre. Lonely pass situated between 2 ridges in open country with a view on the Pic du Midi. No provisioning on the summit but there are cows roaming free which can also be on the road!

In de vroege ochtend (weinig verkeer) beklommen. Rustig begin met enkele haarspeldbochten tussen de bomen nadien overgaand in route door glooiende weideheuvels aan 7％ gemiddeld met mooie uitzichten op het dal van vertrekplaats Arreau. Fietsinfo bordjes zijn weer paraat elke kilometer. Eenzame pasovergang ligt tussen 2 heuvelruggen in open vlakte met oa.uitzicht op de Pic du Midi. Geen bevoorrading op de top maar wel loslopende koeien die ook op de weg kunnen staan/liggen!
Mooiste klimzijde van deze Tour klassieker .
Superb ascent. We can see the summit almost all the time since the start, it's beautiful but also a bit demoralizing... We have the impression that it never gets closer!
The valley is a little closed, it is thus quickly suffocating. Prefer an early departure!
Superbe ascension. On voit le sommet presque tout le temps depuis le départ, c'est magnifique mais aussi un peu démoralisant... On a l'impression qu'il ne se rapproche jamais !!!
La vallée est un peu fermée, c'est donc rapidement étouffant. Privilégiez un départ tôt!

A great climb in a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. From Arreau the warmer if you want to go up the Tourmalet. The first six kilometres are not too hard. That piece is sometimes a bit "too good". But well, an experienced cyclist will not quickly make that mistake. At the top, enjoy a Zen moment and reward yourself with the view of the climb you just conquered.
Een heerlijke klim in een adembenemend mooi landschap. Vanuit Arreau de opwarmer als je de Tourmalet op wilt. Pas op dat je in de eerste zes kilometer niet te hard van stapel loopt. Dat stuk loopt soms een beetje "te lekker". Maar goed, een ervaren fietser zal die fout niet snel meer maken. Pak op de top een "zen-momentje" en beloon jezelf met het uitzicht op de klim die je net hebt bedwongen.
Such a climb where you can see the col almost all the time, and where it does not take too much effort to get there (although it remains an alpine col of course). The classic combination with the Tourmalet is almost a must. On the way back, you can do the Aspin again, or the Hourquette d'Ancisan.
Zo'n klim waar je bijne heel de tijd de col kunt zien, en waar het niet al te veel moeite kost om er te geraken (Al blijft het natuurlijk wel een alpencol). De klassieke combinatie met de Tourmalet is bijna een een must. Op de terugweg kun je dan weer de Aspin doen, ofwel de Hourquette d'Ancisan.

Leuke klim. Mooie uitzichten. Doordat hij niet té lang is, ook goed te doen voor niet-klimmers. Aanrader!
I found it quite spicy. In August 18 I climbed the Aspin. The first 6k to the restaurant are doable. After that the climb really starts. I describe myself as fit, but a moderate climber, the last 5 /6k I found spicy. 9 to 10% continuous is not a joke but just hard work.
Ik vond hem best pittig. In Augustus 18 de Aspin beklommen. De eerste 6k tot het restaurant zijn goed te doen. Daarna begint de klim eigenlijk pas. Ik beschrijf mezelf als fit, maar een matige klimmer, De laatste 5 /6k vond ik pittig. 9 a 10% continue is geen grap maar gewoon knetterhard werken.
Did this col last tuesday 4 sept. Good col to acclimatize and train for the bigger and tougher climbs. From St Marie de Campan is t 13 km, nice climb and not heavy. Before the real climb begins you can eat at the eateries a delicious plat de jour. Delicious descent.
Deze col afgelopen dinsdag 4 sept gedaan. Goeie col om mee te acclimatiseren en te trainen voor de grotere en zwaardere beklimmingen. Vanuit St Marie de Campan is t 13 km, mooie klim en niet zwaar. Voor de echte klim gaat beginnen kun je bij de eettentjes een lekkere plat de jour nuttigen. Heerlijke afdaling.
Climbed this mountain as 3rd in the Marmotte Pyrenees. Good road surface, nowhere too steep, just doable. The views are beautiful. The descent is also safe ;-), no bad road surface.
Deze berg als 3e beklommen in de Marmotte Pyreneeën. Prima wegdek, nergens te steil, gewoon goed te doen. Uitzichten zijn mooi. De afdaling is ook veilig ;-), geen slecht wegdek dus.
Nice climb, here you have the idea that you can do something. I have seen griffon vultures here ban very close. last 2 km are less steep than indicated.
Mooie klim, hier heb je het idee dat je wat kan. Ik heb hier vale gieren gezien ban zeer dichtbij. laatste 2 km zijn minder stijl als staat aangegeven.
Enjoy the beautiful views along the way. On this mountain you can give just a little bit more, because the hard part of the climb is only 4 km. Above a large herd of cows.
Lekker genieten onderweg van het mooie uitzicht. Op deze berg kun je net iets meer geven, omdat het zware gedeelte van de beklimming maar 4 km is. Boven een grote kudde koeien.
