Beautiful landscapes all along the ascent. Too bad that the road is so narrow and makes the progression more difficult during this ascent.

Rented a decent Scott road bike in La Foux d'Allos (Chez Marcel, Skiset) for €35 and did the Col d'Allos from both sides. The Barcelonette side is way more beautiful, you're climbing over a narrower road and have nice views. The Colmars side is relatively boring from Colmars to Allos and La Foux, and gets only interesting, beautiful ánd steeper after La Foux. During the ascent from Barcelonette, I was surrounded by crowds of flies from +/- 1500m high to +/- 2100m high, extremely annoying.

Great climb, beautiful nature: I can't say it better than Patrickbaert! Enjoyed the ride and was up before I knew it.

Already climbed this col twice. In August 2018 as the first col of the popular cycling tour "les 3 Cols"
(Allos-Champs-Cayolle) from Barcelonnette in the Ubaye valley.
While cycling, in the early morning hours, we could see how fantastic this col is in all its aspects.
No major road constructions such as tunnels or hairpins.
But the constructed narrow route (heavy traffic prohibited) follows the natural course of the mountain formations in the Mercantour National Park and winds itself capriciously upwards along rock faces, over deep ravines and on the left side beautiful views and the ever deepening gorge (Gorges du Bachelard) under your balcony route where below the Col de la Cayolle runs through.
You can enjoy all this because nowhere is it too steep.
There's the familiar cycling information signs every kilometer and just before the top there's a réfuge/mountain hut (supply) because the pass itself is mainly a parking lot with a 360° panorama.

The descent back along this side requires concentration because it is spectacular and narrow with unclear curves and little road demarcation and sometimes skidding traffic.

Obligatory "bicycle cost" if you stay in Barcelonnette,
Both up and down beautiful!

All the way actually 7 percent. But beautiful balcony road descent in the evening sunlight on the rock flanks. Just like Cayolle you can really see how beautiful it is down there.

Great climb from Barcelonnette. I think you can also surprisingly good skiing / freeriding. The descent towards Allos is spectacular with tricky turns. Especially in the ski village, the tarmac is anything but good.
There is a fountain in Allos on the square. But the water flows into your bottle as fast as I cycle up (not smoothly).

Geweldige klim vanuit Barcelonnette.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful cols.
Quiet in terms of traffic, super road surface (probably resurfaced because of the tour).
You can keep on pedaling and enjoy the surroundings

Cycled with a fully loaded travel bike (September 2015) from north to south.
Of the 8 cols cycled, I found this perhaps the most beautiful (was also beautiful weather...). Narrow quiet road, with constant beautiful views on the left (kind of balcony road). Not really difficult, only the last few km with hairpin turns seem long.
