I that the designation hardened and cobbled should be reversed here. It is indeed cobbled from the start of the climb to halfway up. I was surprised when I turned up the climb, not expecting cobblestones at all! Luckily it's not Flemish cobblestones I thought, they still run reasonably well. The first part in the village can be a bit crowded with traffic and tourists, but the scenery is beautiful! If you pass here in the valley, it is definitely worth just riding up and enjoying the view.

The Wall of Vianden: I only describe the first 660m of the climb, up to the Vianden youth hostel. Almost annual tradition on our college's Buzzard Tour. First 570m over cobblestones through the picturesque Grand Rue. Then over asphalt the last 80m at 14 to 19% until the youth hostel. With full panniers, the last stretch is a bit of a struggle.
