Straight up from the glorious beach. It is pretty hard. When I rode it in 2013 there was a horrible 'corrugated' section of tarmac nearer the top which is probably long gone. Scene of the 1984 hill climb championship, won by Darryl Webster from Steve Marchant in 4 minutes something (I think). Good view of the beach going down it.
A huge tester. Accidentally routed up this on a gravel ride around the area. One of the hardest SW UK climbs in terms of length of climb >15%. Plenty of climbs rank higher in terms of overall ascent/difficulty but don’t know of any that are consistently as steep as the middle section of this one, other than maybe Lynmouth which is steeper but a little shorter!
