This is a big climb from Sondrio. The roads are crazy busy in August so avoid. Bike lights should be used in the tunnels to avoid being hit by a car. The tunnels can be quite scary with irregular surfaces and darkness. I will likely do this at least once a year.

Great ride to arrive in an extraordinary environment.
Long and demanding after Campo Franscia, 12 breathless hairpin bends.
Bring your front and rear lights. The tunnels, although short, are not lit and have a pebble floor.
Caution at the beginning of the season due to the presence of ice in the tunnels.
Possibility of refreshments near the finish (Rifugio Zoia).
Water fountains at Chiesa di Valmalenco and Campo Franscia. No at the finish.
Car parking in Sondrio (Lungo Mallero Armando Diaz).

Lunga e impegnativa dopo Campo Franscia, 12 tornanti senza respiro.
No all'arrivo.
Parcheggio auto a Sondrio (Lungo Mallero Armando Diaz).

What a climb! Not for nothing is this a notorious Giro finish. From Sondrio, it is on right away. Even just outside the village, I saw a sign 35% if you approach this climb via a side road. When you really get to high altitude, above the village of Franscia, it gets bitingly steep. Tunnels
with cobblestones gives a cooling effect, but in the descent also trembling wrists. They are straight and reasonably illuminated. At the top of the first reservoir you can go to the second reservoir, but the restaurant at the parking lot is too tempting to consider this monster as a summit. You best avoid the weekend. Then many Italians with the car on the road to here in the mountains to walk.
