The climb is out of Woodmancote and provides a short cut up to Cleeve Hill which leads back towards Cheltenham or takes you further out towards Winchcombe. Large parts of the track are shaded under trees which is nice, especially on hot days. But it means there aren’t fantastic views of the surrounding areas.
First part of the climb eases off for a moment about half way, but 2nd half is called “the wall” for a reason. Make sure you don’t underestimate the task at hand.
If riding down, be mindful of the cattle grids, especially at speed.
On a dry day the road is fine to ride but note there are a couple of cattle grids that you can either ride over or go around on gravel. After rain, especially heavy rain, there can be quite some large amounts of gravel on the road which you should be mindful off. Due to the shading of the trees road can remain damp for a long time.
Traffic is usually low, but cars can go quite fast on this single track road but usually drivers are patient. It’s advisable to be aware of your surroundings.
