The road surface is in better condition than on the nearby Mynydd Bettws from Gwyddelwern climb where the initial steep section is on very broken tarmac. A short descent from the top of the climb brings you to a small crossroads - turn right here and you join the climb from Gwyddelwern above the broken-up section.
