Leaving busy Aosta you pass the military academy and the back of Beauregard Hospital.
Route climbs slightly winding up the open northern flank of the wide Aosta Valley, past vineyards and through several small boroughs of lower St Christophe. Panoramic views of motorway, railway, river and the runway of the small Aosta Valley Airport down the valley.
Habitation becomes scarcer, traffic reduced and on narrow road you gradually cycle into the forest About halfway up the climb, after Lumian nameplate, cycle left onto the turnoff where you join the other climbing route from Villair. There is a brief welcome descent on this second section that continues to climb briskly around 7-9% to cycle through Parléaz, located between two mountain rivers.
The last hairpins bring you to the final village of Blavy, with its church, spring and some houses, which you can climb all the way to where the tarmac ends. There you have fantastic views of the wide surroundings of Aosta with the start of the Great St Bernard Route and the peaks of the Gran Paradiso National Park.

Besides the Great St Bernard Pass, the flanks of the wide Aosta valley have lots of wonderful climbing, such as this long tough no-holds-barred climb to Blavy.
