Bell Lane is the less evil twin of Stoney Lane. Same side of the Chess valley, same beautiful woodland. But less steep. Bell Lane doesn't connect with other routes as well as Stoney Lane, which is why I don't use it so much, but it's sometimes good to take the easy option. Once you reach the top you drop into a shallow dip and then have to climb out the other side, so there's still some work to do after topping out the main part of the climb. Bell Lane is the less evil twin of Stoney Lane. Same side of the Chess valley, same beautiful woodland. But less steep. Bell Lane doesn't connect with other routes as well as Stoney Lane, which is why I don't use it so much, but it's sometimes good to take the easy option. Once you reach the top you drop into a shallow dip and then have to climb out the other side, so there's still some work to do after topping out the main part of the climb. Traffic is light, probably lighter than Stoney Lane, and surface is fine. All this said, it's a good climb, and worth a detour to experience, even if it's short.
