For me one of the most beautiful climbs I have done in the Black Forest! Mainly because of the peace and quiet (last ca 4 km car-free) and the beautiful view at the top. Still no five stars because it has a coarse gravel/gravel strip in it that others also write about. The section after that also has a lot of grit and pebbles, which makes it really tricky on the downhill turns. There is a large catering facility at the summit.... read more

There are no great views on the first 10 kilometres, and yet I find the Belchen the most fun of all the climbs in the Black Forest. This may be due to the fact that the traffic is relatively quiet, as it can be split between two parallel roads, and the section to the east of the Belchen is on the quieter side. It is not really too steep anywhere, the most difficult sections are in the shade, which makes it easy to get through. The last few kilometres after the cable car can be a bit lonely, as no cars can get there. The last few metres are truly unique and reward you with a sweeping view over the Black Forest. I find the climb ideal for training in a relaxed spruce forest setting, and that's usually what you come here for ;)

Beautiful climb where, in clear weather, you are treated to fantastic views of the summit. At the valley station of the chairlift, it takes a while to find the ascent; you have to cross right past the building over a gravel trade. One of the most beautiful climbs in the region!

Nice, steady climb. As everywhere in the Black Forest, the tarmac is perfect. Magnificent views of the summit and red kites (birds of prey) flying close to the road.

Mooie, regelmatige klim.

Wonderful climb. Very spicy and generally quite steep, constantly about 8%. At the cable car it is a bit of a search, you have to pass behind the 'valley station' (you are already at 1150m altitude) about 200 meters of bad gravel. After the barrier it is still 3,5km 6,5% and it is really enjoying. The last part you climb above the tree line and you have a beautiful view of the wide surroundings, even the Vosges Mountains and the Alps.

Prachtige beklimming.

Nice climb on a quiet road with new asphalt. After 7-8km you come to the beginning of a cable car. You have to go right around it via a narrow gravel path. After a barrier and 100m of unpaved road there is asphalt again: here you will encounter no traffic at all.

Spicy but beautiful. Almost no traffic, great road and beautiful surroundings: what more could you want as a cyclist?
