Tough but beautiful. Great view at the barrage. Well worth the side trip.

Climb to the wonderful Lac de Saint Guerin (cycled June 2023) starts initially via the Col du Pré route, to climb out of ski village Areche, leaving it on the right after a few hairpin turns. Crossing the river via the not-so-bike-friendly bridge thanks to the gaps between the metal length beams!!!!
The rest of the climbing route has hairpin bends both after the turnoff through the alpine meadows up the mountainside,as well as at the end to get to the top at dam height. In between slightly winding road, with the deliberate 16 % section, through forests with rocky flanks and hardly any habitation.
Climbfinder end is located at the dam but you can climb further on the left side for 4 kilometres above the lake (white road CF map) amid rough rocky landscape interspersed with cow-filled green meadows. Animals are indirectly the reason that the tarmac road still continues in order to get mobile milking machines near them. After a few more hairpin bends,a descent and a firm lock, the road surface turns to gravel at 1825 m altitude.
Little traffic, bumpy patchwork asphalt, provisioning possible at the dam.

Rather unknown summit climb with wonderful bonus!
Absolutely worth a visit in combination with Col du Pré.

Done on the morning of Wednesday 15 June 2022.
Living in the valley we set off from Albertville, 19km to Beaufort to get into the swing of things and also 500M of ascent in the legs on a Toboggan road.
The climb starts in Beaufort and for the first 6.5km it is similar to the Col du Pré, then you have to take a right turn in a bend in the road, there are then about 6km left.
The beginning is done in the mountain pastures on a winding road, then there is a good straight portion in a severe slope (up to 15 %) the slope softens then and we arrive at the foot of the dam where we feel very small, there is 1km left again in winding in a rather strong slope.
Eric and I were surprised by the difficulty, we didn't expect it, the heavy and stormy atmosphere was certainly not foreign.
Note that when you leave the Col du Pré road, you have to cross a bridge with metal crosspieces laid lengthways, you have to be very careful on the descent because there is a joint between each one and I almost made a beautiful glide.

Nice climb through a steep back road towards a beautiful lake.

A little gear is not a luxury with this climb. This is really for the powerhouse. Besides the steep part that is marked on the map, also after the last hairpin the percentages are significantly in the double digits.

View is okay during the climb, but not more special than on other cols in the area. The reservoir at the end more than makes up for that. What a picture!

Short but intense: the 3 km stings and you have to manage your energy well to not end up burnt out for the rest! the passage to more than 15% really hurts!
