I've ridden the route several times now and can't get enough! The first time it felt continuously steep, but that's only the case in short passages. And up to the Ackernalm, the road is usually wide enough for oncoming traffic (rare, but it does happen) to pass without any problems.
The last stretch to the Bärenbadalm is an absolute MUST in good weather, as the panoramic view is overwhelming. And as this last section is closed to cars, only hikers are allowed on the road.
Ich bin die Strecke nun mehrfach gefahren und kann nicht genug bekommen! Beim ersten mal wars gefühlt noch kontinuierlich steil, aber das ist es nur in kurzen Passagen. Und bis zur Ackernalm ist die Straße meist breit genug, damit Gegenverkehr (selten, aber kommt vor) problemlos vorbei kommt.
Das letzte Stück zur Bärenbadalm ist bei schönem Wetter ein absolutes MUSS, denn der Panoramablick ist überwältigend. Und da auf diesem letzten Stück für Autos gesperrt ist, sind dort nur Wanderer unterwegs.
A few metres after the junction at the bottom of the main road, you immediately come to the toll station (free of charge for bikes) and then it's on straight away. And that does not change until you reach the Ackernalm.
The ramp climbs steadily and relatively steeply, with almost no bends. Stops in between will throw you off your stride and clicking back into gear on the narrow road is not so easy. So just start in the lowest gear and keep your hands off the gears!
The Ackernalm is the destination and the prospect of a tasty snack practically pulls you up. It was still cold when we went up, so it was nice to warm up in the pub.
Next time I will continue to the Bärnbadalm and only stop at the Ackernalm on the way back. I'm curious to see if that works out - and I'm already looking forward to the Kaspressknödelsuppe!
Wenige Meter nach dem Abzweig unten von der Hauptstraße kommt sofort die Mautstation (Fahrrad kostenfrei) und dann zieht's sofort an. Und das ändert sich auch bis oben zur Ackernalm nicht mehr.
Die Rampe geht kontinuerlich relativ steil hoch und macht nahezu keine Kurven. Zwischenstopps bringen dich aus dem Tritt und auf der engen Straße wieder einzuklicken ist nicht so easy. Also einfach im kleinsten Gang starten und Finger von der Gangschaltung!
Die Ackernalm ist das Ziel und die Aussicht auf eine leckere Jausn zieht dich quasi hoch. Als wir hochgefahren sind, wars auch noch kalt, da lies es sich in der Wirtsstube gut aufwärmen.
Beim nächsten mal werde ich zur Bärnbadalm weiter fahren und erst auf dem Rückweg in der Ackernalm einkehren. Ich bin gespannt, ob das klappt – und freu mich jetzt schon auf die Kaspressknödelsuppe!
