Long climb of almost 5 kilometres that starts at the junction near Val-Dieu Abbey and ends t.h.v. the church in Aubel. The gradients are not spectacular and you can consider the climb false flat for its entire length. Wanting to do the climb at too fast a pace can mean you're going to run into yourself. If you already have the necessary kilometres/altimeters in your legs when you start this climb it can be quite tough. Especially the last part when entering Aubel is just tough then.
Lange klim van bijna 5 kilometer die start op de kruising bij de abdij van Val-Dieu en eindigt t.h.v. de kerk in Aubel. De stijgingspercentages zijn niet spectaculair en je kan de klim over de gehele lengte beschouwen als vals plat. De klim in een te hoog tempo willen doen kan betekenen dat je jezelf gaat tegenkomen. Als je al de nodige kilometers/hoogtemeters in de benen hebt zitten als je aan deze klim begint dan kan het best zwaar zijn. Vooral het laatste stuk bij het binnenrijden van Aubel is dan gewoon zwaar.
This climb hardly ever exceeds 3 percent but if you cycle this fast you will find yourself in trouble because the length of the climb makes itself felt. Moreover, the steepest part is at the end, in the built-up area of Aubel, but even that part is still quite long. Furthermore, just as steeper in the beginning and in the middle it is more falls flat. The route (you follow the valley) is otherwise beautiful and the road makes a lot of swings. Beautiful views of the adjacent ridge and later Aubel. Excellent asphalt and a wide but still very quiet road. A pleasure to cycle despite the fact that it is not really high technical climbing.
Deze klim komt vrijwel nergens boven de 3 procent uit maar als je deze hard omhoog fietst ga je jezelf wel tegenkomen want de lengte laat zich dan echt wel voelen. Bovendien zit het "steilste" gedeelte op het eind, in de bebouwde kom van Aubel, en ook dat deel duurt dan nog best lang. Verder even steiler in het begin en in het midden is het meer vals plat. Het traject (je volgt het dal) is overigens prachtig en de weg maakt heel wat slingers. Mooie uitzichten op de naastgelegen heuvelrug en later ook op Aubel. Prima asfalt en een brede maar toch zeer rustige weg. Een genot om te fietsen ondanks dat het klimtechnisch niet echt hoogstaand is.
