A short but intense climb, as the gradient averages 11% and repeatedly exceeds 15%. Scenery is a marvel: from the halfway point onwards, you are surrounded by hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, farms, villas and parish churches that allow you to breathe in the spirit and history of this area. Once you reach the top, if you continue past the magnificent village, you find yourself on the long tree-lined avenue leading to the Villa Medicea 'La Ferdinanda', also known as the villa of a hundred fireplaces, a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2013. The only negative note is the not-so-small traffic, which on this fairly narrow road can create some annoyance.
