The shortest and best way to climb the cliff from Arromanches-les-Bains! Through the Place du 6 Juin 1944 (along a museum about the landing in Normandy) you start the first steep part of this climb. You doze off on a sort of cobbled road to the top, where an old army tank seems to give you a salute on the way to heaven. After you have passed the tank via a right-hand turn, you can enjoy some mild inclines for a while, before conquering the last part of the plateau. If you thought you had the hardest part, you are sorely mistaken. Via an asphalt road this time, and after a very sharp left turn, you gradually get the goal in sight: the top of the plateau.
On top of the cliff, find a bench and, together with the statue of the Virgin Mary, enjoy the magnificent view of this Normandy coastal town.
De kortste en fijnste manier om vanuit Arromanches-les-Bains de klif te bedwingen! Via de Place du 6 Juin 1944 (langs een museum omtrent de landing in Normandië) vat je het eerste steile gedeelte van deze klim aan. Je dokkert over een soort van klinkerweggetje naar boven, alwaar een oude legertank je een eresaluut lijkt te geven op weg naar de hemel. Nadat je via een de rechtse bocht de tank hebt gepasseerd kan je even op genieten van mildere stijgingspercentages; vooraleer het laatste deel van het plateau te bedwingen. Indien je dacht het zwaarste stuk al gehad te hebben, dan heb je het hier behoorlijk mis. Via een asfaltweg dit keer, en na een zeer scherpe linkse bocht krijg je stilaan het doel in zicht: de top van het plateau.
Zoek bovenop de klif een bankje uit, en geniet samen met het standbeeld van de Maagd Maria van het prachtig uitzicht over dit Normandische kuststadje.
