Het eerste deel van de klim gaat door een nauwe en diep ingesleten kloof, de Cañon de Añisclo. In deze schitterende kloof loopt de weg geleidelijk omhoog. Overigens is in het hoogseizoen éénrichtingsverkeer ingesteld (in klimmende richting naar Fanlo). Na het verlaten van de kloof volgt serieuzer klimwerk, maar lastig wordt het nooit.
