From Wald, the first one and a half kilometres are a good warm-up, with percentages below 10. Then follows a flatter part. Resist the temptation to go too fast here, because the real climbing has yet to begin! After about three kilometres, the road bends to the left and becomes steeper. Think again if you want to take this challenge, you can still turn right here for the steep part.

The steep part feels like an endless climb. You work your way from bend to bend with the lightest gear. You can only see a few hundred metres of the climb in front of you. Along the way, you pant to catch up with some hikers, who also have difficulty walking up the steepness. Be careful, there may be cyclists and motorbikes coming down as well, so keep your wits about you. And then, after just over two kilometres, which felt like an endless climb, you arrive at Alp Scheidegg. Here you know why you took on the challenge: you are rewarded with a magnificent view towards the Obersee and the Alps.

The descent follows the same path. It is steep and at times clumsy at the bends, so keep your hands on the brakes, especially on busier days.

Fun fact: Some of Switzerland's top cyclists have also ridden this climb and put their ride on Strava, so you can compare your climbing time with that of the pros.
