Quiet climb on a wide but low-traffic road. It holds the middle ground between false flat and yet maybe a climb, and somehow there seems to be no end to it. The highest point lies between houses and is otherwise not found worthy of a sign. The first part is (at least in spring) very green with lush vegetation that sometimes makes you feel almost like you are in the jungle and not in Spain.... read more

This climb turns out to be part of a circuit we rode today. At over 30degrees, any climb does become a thing. Our starting point was Ochagavia where we had found a nice campsite/base. We deviated slightly from the route in climbfinder by taking a shortcut in a village. The villages have a strikingly German look with white-plastered walls, wooden window frames and brick-coloured roof tiles. Not timber-framed, but outlook very similar. Not German are the many vultures circling above you. Besides griffon vultures, possibly also lammergieren (no 100% identification) and the requisite red kites. Surroundings are great; quiet, good roads, varied landscape, bilingual (Spanish and Basque). At the cafés nobody sits on the terrace, don't let that put you off, they are cooler inside, so the café is not closed. Climb os varied in terms of steepness. Each time it starts again. The descent to the east has many beautiful hairpin bends that are warned for/against. We did not encounter much traffic on a very good road surface.
