Wonderful route. I was especially amazed by the descent from the plateau to Trèves. Stunningly beautiful. I hardly met a soul, apart from the arrivals in Meyrueis and on top of Mont Aigoual. The silence was also special from time to time. In short, really something special. At a certain point, the altitude and heat started to count. Despite the slight incline, the climb to Mont Aigoual was a real struggle. Tim Krabbé writes in his book "De Renner": "There is no end to this".
The route also contains one small, insignificant mistake: At the bottom of Mont Aigoual, you are sent back 200 metres and then have to turn 180 degrees and cycle back again. Next, in the village of Camprieu, you are directed to turn right on a small road, while you should go straight on. Also, you are directed to the dead-end top of Mont Aigoual, while in "De Renner" that is not the case.
The "end sprint" in Meyrueis goes, according to the book, over a small bridge in a bend to the right and to the left. So you end up in the main street with all the terraces. This is not right either. Doesn't matter, the route is the same in the end.
Prachtige route. Ik keek vooral mijn ogen uit in de afdaling vanaf de hoogvlakte naar Trèves. Waanzinnig mooi. Ben vrijwel geen ziel tegengekomen, afgezien van de doorkomsten in Meyrueis en bovenop de Mont Aigoual. De stilte was op zijn tijd ook bijzonder. Kortom, echt iets speciaals. Op een gegeven moment begonnen de hoogtemeters en de hitte wel te tellen. Ondanks de lichte stijgingspercentages was de klim naar Mont Aigoual echt afzien. Tim Krabbé schrijft in De Renner niet voor niets hierover “Hier komt geen einde aan”.
De route bevat verder een enkel klein onbeduidend foutje: Onderaan de Mont Aigoual wordt je 200 meter teruggestuurd om vervolgens 180 graden te draaien en weer terug te moeten fietsen. Vervolgens wordt je in het plaatsje Camprieu op een klein straatje naar rechts gezonden, terwijl je rechtdoor moet. Ook wordt je naar de doodlopende top van de Mont Aigoual gedirigeerd, terwijl in “De Renner” dat niet het geval is.
De “eindsprint” in Meyrueis gaat volgens het boek over een bruggetje in een bocht naar recht en naar links. Dan kom je dus als eindpunt en ook startpunt uit in de hoofdstraat bij alle terrasjes. Ook dit klopt niet. Maakt verder niet uit de route is uiteindelijk hetzelfde.
