I’m 64, and a former elite triathlete, with hundreds of thousands of kilometers in my legs, and I must say, this was the hardest 100 K that I’ve ever done on a road bike. I started in Airolo, and did Gottardo first, followed by Furka then Nufenen. Each pass was beautiful, and progressively harder.
This is a huge recommendation for the cyclist who already has quite a bit of experience in the mountains, as 3 major cols well above 2,000 metres is no mean feat.
I rode this lap from Andermatt. The Furka is then a wonderful start. The Nufenenpass is leaden and the Gotthard on the cobblestones at the end is not the comfort you were totally hoping for.
The landscapes are beautiful. So look around you especially well! Along the way, there are several villages to rest in. If for some reason you can't make it, there are trains that can take the bike in to your starting point, or the postbus over the Nufenenpass.
I would recommend this tour to anyone!
Dit is een enorme aanrader voor de fietser die al behoorlijk wat ervaring heeft in de bergen, want 3 grote cols ruim boven de 2.000 meter is niet niks.
Ik reed deze ronde vanuit Andermatt. De Furka is dan een heerlijk begin. De Nufenenpass is loodzwaar en de Gotthard op de kasseien is aan het einde van de rit niet het comfort waar je helemaal op hoopt.
De landschappen zijn prachtig. Kijk dus vooral goed om je heen! Onderweg zijn er verschillende dorpjes om uit te rusten. Als je het om wat voor reden dan ook niet haalt rijden er treinen waar de fiets in mee kan naar je startpunt, of de postbus over de Nufenenpass.
Ik zou deze tocht iedereen willen aanraden!
Cycled this round trip with 3 summits of + 2000 m in August 2019.
Started in Ulrichen because I was staying there.
First climb was the tough Nufenen pass followed by long recovery descent (23 km) to Airolo.
Here begins the beautiful old Gotthard pass (Tremola) that winds up via hairpin bends in cobblestone.
Descent can be a part traffic-free but over the old Tremola cobblestones.
From Hospental to Realp is straight and flat but the wind can be a spoilsport here.
I had underestimated the Furkapass because it could be counted as the 3rd climb.
After the descent to Oberwald you can take the traffic-free cycle path along the river to the foot of Nufenen or in my case to the end of the route.
On the whole route there are enough points to get food and drinks.

Can easily pass for me as the Swiss equivalent of the Italian Sella round.

In Augustus 2019 deze rondrit met 3 toppen van + 2000 m gefietst.
Startte in Ulrichen omdat ik daar verbleef.
Eerste klim was de zware Nufenenpas gevolgd door lange recuperatieafdaling (23 km) tot Airolo.
Hier begint dan de prachtige oude Gotthardpas (Tremola) die via haarspeldbochten in kassei naar omhoog kronkelt.
Afdaling kan een deel verkeersarm maar over de oude Tremolakasseien.
Stuk van Hospental tot Realp is rechtdoor en vlak maar de wind kan hier spelbreker zijn.
Furkapas had ik wat onderschat want hij kon als 3 de klim wel tellen.
Na afdaling tot Oberwald kan men verkeersvrij op fietspad langs de rivier naar voet Nufenen of in mijn geval naar het eindpunt.
Er zijn op gehele route voldoende punten om je te bevoorraden aan drank en voeding.

Kan voor mij gerust doorgaan als de Zwitserse evenknie van de Italiaanse Sella ronde.
Wondermooie gevarieerde hooggebergte toer!!!!
