Ridden the 05/08/2021 route yesterday. Nice route with a lot of altimeters, where the road surface in the second part of the route is significantly better than the first part, which is dramatic at times. For example, the descent of the Côte d'Ereffe is not doable on a racing bike. The combination of Montagne Corroy and the Wall of Huy in the last part of the route is in my opinion extremely hard, but on the other hand, it's a great climax after a day of enjoyment on the bike.
Gisteren 05/08/2021 route gereden. Mooie route met toch een stevig aantal hoogtemeters , waarbij het wegdek in het tweede deel van de route beduidend beter is dan het eerste deel, wat bij momenten dramatisch is. Zo is bijvoorbeeld de afdaling van de Côte d'Ereffe niet te doen op een koersfiets. De combinatie Montagne Corroy en Muur van Hoei in het slot van de route is wat mij betreft loodzwaar, maar anderzijds een geweldig orgelpunt na een dag genieten op de fiets.
Nice route with lots of descents and climbs. In this long version (there is also a shorter version on this site) you actually only have long descents in the outer loop. Those who know the region, know that most of the slopes easily exceed the 10％. But those who know the region also know that there are many bad roads in this area, with very bad asphalt. A pothole in the road is repaired by putting a lot of asphalt on it. When another pothole appears, they put another layer of asphalt on it. And so on and so forth. There is improvement on the way, because on some parts there is some nice new complete strips of asphalt.
But the descent of the Côte d'Ereffe is really unfeasible. And just before the Wall of Huy, I would leave out the Montagne Corroy because of a too busy descent just before the center of Huy. But for the rest, absolutely recommended. And there's more improvement on the way because when I rode it today (May 2021) there was quite some road works going on.
Mooie route met veel dalen en klimmen. In deze lange versie (er staat op deze site ook een kortere versie) heb je eigenlijk enkel lange afdalingen in de buitenste lus. Wie de streek kent weet, dat de meeste hellingen vlot boven de 10％ gaan. Maar wie de streek kent, weet ook dat in deze regio ook veel slechte wegen zijn mét erg slechte asfalt. Een put in de weg herstellen ze hier door er een kwak asfalt op te kappen. Komt er weer een put naast, nog een kwak asfalt er op. Enzovoort enzovoort. Er is beterschap op komst, want op sommige stukken liggen er mooie nieuwe volledige stroken asfalt.
Maar de afdaling van de Côte d'Ereffe is echt ondoenbaar. En vlak voor de Muur van Hoei zou ik de Montagne Corroy er uit laten wegens een te drukke afdaling vlak voor het centrum van Hoei. Maar voor de rest absoluut een aanrader. En er is nog meer beterschap op komst want toen ik hem vandaag reed (mei 2021) waren er behoorlijk wat wegenwerken aan de gang.
